This 10-day Zanzibar vacation and Southern Tanzania wildlife safari will take you to Zanzibar, Mikumi National Park, and Ruaha National Park. Zanzibar is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean that serves as a political and economic hub for East Africa. It consists of two main islands, Unguja and Pemba, as well as smaller inhabited islands. Unguja is the largest, with Zanzibar as its capital. It is 85 kilometres long and 39 kilometres wide, while Pemba is 72 kilometres long and 25 kilometres wide. Zanzibar’s highest point is 120 meters above sea level.

The capital of Zanzibar is Zanzibar Town, which is located on the island of Unguja and is a cultural and historic Swahili City State about 36 kilometres off the coast of mainland Tanzania. In 2002, Zanzibar had a population of around 981,744 people. With a population growth rate of about 3% per year, Zanzibar now has approximately 1.2 million habitats. About 90% of the people in these habitats are Muslims, with the rest being Christians.

Day 1: Arrive in Zanzibar

Upon arrive in Abeid Aman Karume International Airport in Zanzibar you will meet our team at Zanzibar airport and pick you up with private vehicle transfer to Stone town. Dinner and overnight at Antonio Garden Hotel: Bed and breakfast include.

Day 2: Spice farm and Jozani forest tour to see Red Monkey.

Today you go on an excursion to the spice and fruit plantations close to Stone town for the famous Spice Tour.

We have developed a special Spice Tour with in depth information not only about spices, but also organically grown herbs and a detailed description about their traditional uses in medicine cosmetics and cooking. After the tour we invite for an opulent lunch at our guides’ home, where you can taste the spices and fruits.

After lunch we take you to your beach resort. On the way you pass Jozani Forest, the last habitat of the rare endemic Red Monkey. With a local guide you stroll through Jozani Chwaka National Park and look at the rare monkeys. If you wish you can even wander down the boardwalk to the fascinating Mangrove Ecosystem. Day 3: Leisure Day at the beach.

Relax and enjoy at the beaches of north coast Nungwi beach Zanzibar. Dinner and overnight at Amani Bungalow: Bed and breakfast include.

Day 4: Jambiani Village tour to learn the unique culture of Zanzibar

In the morning you drive along the coast. Passing the fishing villages of Bwejuu and Paje you reach Jambiani, a fishermen village on the East coast of Zanzibar. We offer a cultural village tour to visit villagers working in different professions.

Our guide talks about the history of the village, you will visit a traditional herbalist, who will show you the local medicines, herbs and their uses, a visit to a local organically plantation on coral stone, where farmers cultivate under difficult circumstances, and seaweed farms run by woman. A good chance to learn about the unique culture and the diverse environment of Zanzibar’s villages and to meet the friendly Swahili people. Day 5: Kizimkazi Village: To watch Dolphins

One day you go to an excursion to Kizimkazi. Situated on the southern point of the island, Kizimkazi fishing village is home to several schools of bottle-nosed dolphins and Humpback dolphins, which can often be sighted following a short boat trip from the village. If you are lucky, you may be able to swim quite close to the dolphins, which can be a very rewarding experience. We are doing this trip in the afternoon to avoid the crowds of tourists in the morning, which in big numbers disturbing the dolphins. Day 6. Sea express boat ride to Dar-es-Salaam transfer to Mikumi National Park for evening game drive 

You will be met by your professional driver guide at the ferry in Dar-es-Salaam, who will transport you directly to Mikumi National Park.

We will stop for a cup of coffee and a hot lunch. As soon as you arrive at Mikumi Gate, you will begin the afternoon game drive in the park, which allows you to experience the wildlife and the landscape of Mikumi Park. It is Tanzania’s fourth largest park with an abundance of birds, making it one of the easiest places to observe wildlife without being hindered by natural obstacles. After the everlasting game drive, you will leave the park after sunset and proceed to your accommodation for dinner and overnight stay. Dinner and overnight at Mikumi Tan- Swiss lodge. Day 7. Mikumi National Park to Ruaha National Park

After breakfast, pack your luggage and embark on an enroute game drive to the Ruaha National Park for an afternoon and sunset game drive inside the park. Mikumi park is not very far from Ruaha, therefore, it is possible to drive for approximately five to six hours.

The game drive will be followed by a picnic lunch and short leisure break at a very special location, followed by a game drive until sunset. Lastly, drive back to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay. Dinner and overnight at Mabata Makali Tented Lodge/Camp. Dinner & Breakfast include.

Day 8. Full day game drive in Ruaha National Park

After a leisurely breakfast, drive early in the morning within Ruaha National Park for an early morning game drive. This is a tremendous day of exploring and admiring the wildlife and landscape of the legendary Ruaha National Park. There are several famous protected areas in Tanzania which provide a beautiful view of bird life where you can discover different types of birds and in some cases, they just migrate from Europe to the Ruaha Park.

The game drives take you to the fantastic and famous Ruaha river which is home to a large number of crocodiles, particularly when the river is always full of water. We will serve a bush picnic lunch within the park and take a short break before completing the maximum number of hours permitted for a full day of game drives. In the evening, return to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay. Dinner and overnight at Mabata Makali Tented Lodge/Camp. Dinner & Breakfast include.

Day 9. Morning Wilderness Walking Safaris and Afternoon Game Drive in Ruaha National Park

You can embark upon a nature wilderness walking safari as soon as you wake up in the morning. In addition to the professional driver guide, a fully armed ranger will introduce you to the special spotting areas, so you can see animal species, plant species, as well as birds up close. The guide will explain various types of animal footprints, excretion waste, bones, spotted animals, and many other rare species of plants and birds. Your interest in nature will be piqued, and you will be allowed to ask as many questions as you wish! You will then return to your accommodation for a leisurely lunch and relaxation. In the late afternoon, you will be taken on an afternoon game drive in the park until sunrise, and then returned to your accommodation for dinner and overnight. Mabata Makali Tented Lodge/Camp.

Day 10. Ruaha National Park – Dar es Salaam/ Zanzibar

On day ten, after breakfast and a short stay in the lodge, you will pack everything together in the proper 4x4W Toyota Land Cruiser and pack your lunch box in order to depart while enjoying enroute game drives to Dar es Salaam or transfer to Zanzibar. Our driver will stop on the way to stop for lunch, take a picture and stretch your body a bit, and then proceed with the drive to Dar es Salaam, where we will end our experience in these ten spectacular parks and Zanzibar beach holiday located on the eastern and southern coastlines of Tanzania.
